Blue Ridge Parkway

A 469 mile drive that travels along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway has  many great hikes along the way. 241 of those miles are in North Carolina. From Cumberland Knob to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, there are dozens of great short hikes. Most of the trails are administered by the National Park Service and no camping is allowed. 

Craggy Gardens

Great views, a picnic area and a visitor center make this a great stop on your way to Mt. Mitchell. Check out our great photos of the blooming rhododendrons that grace this recreation area.

Waterrock Knob

A half mile hike to a 6200 foot summit with a panoramic view of four states. The views can be experienced from your car or from the short but rocky trail.

Rough Ridge

A very short hike to some of the best views in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Access to a bald with very fragile plants make this a worthwhile stop on your drive down the BRP.
