Next to none. There is exactly one recorded death from a black bear attack in Western North Carolina. That was very unusual. Store your food properly, hung between two trees, and you will have few problems. Rattlesnakes are non-aggressive and almost always give you plenty of warning. People, especially at trail-heads, and wild dogs are more of a problem than anything else. We recommend that hikers carry "pepper foam" in an easy to access container or sling. E.G. on your shoulder strap.
