How do I find the hikes described on this site ? The location map shows the general area that each hike is located. Directions are included with each hike and if all else fails contact us. Mapquest will give you a map and driving directions to the towns nearby. Back to TopWhere can I find a hiking partner ? Check out the Carolina Hiking Partners forum. Hikers post their request for a partner here and also post trail conditions from recent hikes. Back to TopWhy doesn't this site list my favorite hike ? Let us know what your favorite hike is! This site is growing and before it is "all over" we would like to list every area in the mountains that are suitable for hiking. Contact us and let us know what you would like to see. Back to TopJust some hikers that want to spread the good word about the finest hiking states in the east! For a more complete description, check out "About us". Back to TopWhat is likelihood of being endangered by an animal ? Next to none. There is exactly one recorded death from a black bear attack in Western North Carolina. That was very unusual. Store your food properly, hung between two trees, and you will have few problems. Rattlesnakes are non-aggressive and almost always give you plenty of warning. People, especially at trail-heads, and wild dogs are more of a problem than anything else. We recommend that hikers carry "pepper foam" in an easy to access container or sling. E.G. on your shoulder strap. Back to TopWhen is the best time to hike ? The Winter if you like solitude. The Spring if you like wildflowers. The Summer if you like the cool breezes of the higher elevations. The Fall if you like beautifully colored leaves. Back to Top
