The Palmetto
Trail
Many
hikers know of the Mountains to the Sea Trail in North Carolina
but few have heard of the Palmetto Trail. The planned 425 mile route
from the South Carolina mountains to the coast, has several "passages"
completed. Just as interesting as it's northern counterpart but
much less publicized, this promises to be one of the better long
distance trails in the east.
Begun
in 1994 this trail will run through fifteen counties. The vision
of Kit Smith, the trail currently has eight sections open. The Lake
Moultrie passage, High hills, Swamp Fox, Sumter, Fort Jackson, Lynches
Woods, Eutaw and our favorite, The Blue Wall Passage.
