Congaree
Camping
Backpacking
Camping
is allowed in the backcountry at Congaree National Park. A free
permit is required and can be obtained from the visitors center.
Wilderness rules apply and no campfires are allowed. You may camp
any where you like as long as it is 100 feet from the trail. You
must bring your cook stove in order to prepare meals. Very few hikers
opt for backcountry camping here, solitude is assured! Be sure to
hang your food from two trees, there are racoons and wild Boers
here. The group size of campers is limited to six people. This area
is on a floodplain so beware of flash floods that may be caused
by rain storms. Overnight parking must be outside of the Monument
gate.
Car
Camping and Family Camping
Free
campsites are found at the Bluff Campsite. The area is well marked
and has picnic tables and fire rings. Firewood can be collected
as long as it is on the ground and dead. The sites are just a short
walk from the front gate and many campers carry in coolers and lawn
chairs.
