Linville
Gorge Camping
There
are quite a number of car camping spots along both rims of the gorge.
Many hikers opt to camp along the rims and day hike in. These spots
are not developed and are un official. Camping here is perfectly
legal and accepted.
Eastern
Rim
There
are several pull-off camping spots on this road. The largest and
most popular is just two short miles from the end of the paved road.
At the parking area for the Jonas Ridge Trail, on the Hawksbill
side, are many great campsites complete with fire rings. The sites
are in the woods are on the same side as the vehicle parking. The
Forest Service is considering the option of developing this area
for an organized campground. It is being touted as a possible alternative
for the illeagal camping that is a constant problem at Table Rock
Picnic area.
Western
Rim
All
along the Kistler Highway are dozens of excellent un oficial camp
sites. This area is so popular that a saturday night in the summer
will remind you of beach traffic. Camp anywhere you want without
a permit. Insects can be fierce here in the warmer monthes. There
are many pre-existing fire rings, campsites and off road parking
for vehicles.
