The Linville River in Linville Gorge

A rugged canyon that has a rugged beauty of it's own, Linville Gorge offers solitude and a true wilderness experience. This was taken at the Spence Ridge Trail river crossing. Many hikers that are lost here annually have the mistaken notion that one can follow the river "out". Twisting and turning through a rocky gorge, passage by foot is impossible in some areas. Unmarked trails lead to the river deep in the gorge, but finding the trail out is at times difficult. This is a good place to have a hiking partner and good backcountry skills. This is also a good place for a peaceful experience that only a wilderness area can afford.
